UFC Fights to Look Forward to in June

The UFC finally has a rare week off after a two-month run of events that included two PPVs. Let’s look forward to some of the great UFC fights taking place next month in June.

Everything You Need to Know Before The Ultimate Fighter 31: Team McGregor vs. Team Chandler

UFC Vegas 74: Kara-France vs. Albazi

The first event of the month features an extremely rare Flyweight main event, the first non-title Flyweight main event since 2017, between contenders Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi. Kara-France will hope to bounce back from a loss to Brandon Moreno last year, while Albazi will look to remain undefeated in the UFC and potentially earn a UFC title eliminator bout.

The rest of the card features some exciting contests, with Alex Caceres taking on Daniel Pineda in the co-main event and the likes of Jim Miller, Jared Gordon, Tim Eliott, Jamie Mullarkey, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, and Andrei Arlovski in action.

The biggest event of the month takes place in the second week of June, with UFC 289, which takes place from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. UFC 289 marks the UFC’s first event in Canada since 2019.

The event was initially scheduled to be headlined by the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship trilogy bout between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña. However, following a rib injury to Peña, Irene Aldana was called in to face Nunes, with Raquel Pennington acting as the official backup fighter.

Nunes, the UFC Women’s Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion, will look to add to her already GWOAT status career and continue her dominant run. Aldana gets her long-awaited UFC title shot with the opportunity to join Brandon Moreno, Alexa Grasso, and Yair Rodriguez as Mexican UFC Champions.

The UFC 289 co-main event features a much-anticipated Lightweight title eliminator bout between former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira and streaking contender Beneil Dariush. The two men were initially scheduled for UFC 288, with the bout pushed back due to an Oliveira injury.

The rest of the fight card features several exciting bouts and notable names, with Dan Ige facing Nate Landwehr, Canadian Marc-Andre Barriault taking on Eryk Anders, Khalil Rountree versus Chris Daukaus, and Nassourdine Imavov clashing with Chris Curtis being the highlights.

UFC Vegas 75: Vettori vs. Cannonier

The third week of June brings a Middleweight headliner between perennial contenders Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier. The two men are coming off bounce-back wins in their previous bouts over Roman Dolidze and Sean Strickland, respectively.

With Vettori and Cannonier essentially only losing to Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier in recent years, every fight for both men could be a title eliminator, having fought nearly every other top-ranked Middleweight. They get a main event opportunity to stake their claim to another title shot.

Other notable bouts on the fight card include highly-touted prospect Arman Tsarukyan facing Joaquim Silva, Armen Petrosyan taking on Christian Leroy Duncan, and prospects Zac Pauga and Modestas Bukauskas clashing in a Light Heavyweight bout.

UFC on ABC 5: Emmett vs. Topuria

The final UFC event of June takes place from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, with UFC on ABC 5, headlined by an exciting contest between Featherweight contenders Josh Emmett and Ilia Topuria.

The undefeated Topuria, one of the brightest prospects in the sport, gets a massive jump in competition against Emmett, who fought for the interim UFC Featherweight Championship in his last bout. The winner could potentially secure a title shot with an impressive performance.

The UFC on ABC 5 fight card is genuinely stacked, with nearly every bout from top to bottom featuring high-level fighters. The likely main card features all top-15 or fringe-ranked contenders, including Amanda Ribas facing Maycee Barber, Brendan Allen taking on Bruno Silva, with Punahele Soriano, Gregory Rodrigues and Neil Magny also in action.

While the card has not been finalised, the prelims will feature some of the UFC’s best prospects, including Justin Tafa, David Onama, Gabriel Santos, Mateusz Rebecki, Tabatha Ricci, Gillian Robertson, Jamall Emmers, Jack Jenkins and Tatsuro Taira.

Although we have a week of no fights, as long as we get through it, there is a whole month of incredible fights to look forward to in June.
