In the UFC 290 main event, UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski will hope to continue his reign over the division against interim Champion Yair Rodriguez. After defending his title four times, Volkanovski challenged Islam Makhachev for the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 284 and, despite losing, looked better than ever in a very close fight. He now returns to the Featherweight division, where he is undefeated across his entire career.

Across from Volkanovsi will be Mexican challenger Yair Rodriguez, who claimed the interim UFC Featherweight Championship in the co-main event of UFC 284 with a dominant second-round submission of Josh Emmett. Before that bout, Rodriguez defeated Brian Ortega via TKO after Ortega suffered a shoulder injury from a grappling exchange. Rodriguez hopes to follow in the footsteps of Brandon Moreno and Alexa Grasso by becoming an undisputed Mexican UFC Champion.

In the UFC 290 co-main event, Moreno will look to defend his UFC Flyweight Championship against Alexandre Pantoja, who has previously beaten Moreno on TUF 24 and in the UFC. Moreno has defeated Kai Kara-France and Deiveson Figueiredo in his past two bouts by TKO and looks to be entering the prime of his career at 29 years old. Pantoja enters his first title shot on a three-fight win streak, with victories over Manel Kape, Brandon Royval, and Alex Perez.

On a stacked International Fight Week PPV main card, former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker faces rising contender Dricus du Plessis in a title eliminator bout, Jalin Turner takes on Dan Hooker in a ranked Lightweight matchup, and wrestling phenom Bo Nickal faces undefeated short-notice replacement Val Woodburn.
