UFC Vegas 83 was initially scheduled to mark the UFC’s return to mainland China for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this, the card features a slew of the UFC’s best talent from Asia and was expected to feature the Road to UFC Season 2 finals. However, similar to UFC Vegas 68: Lewis vs. Spivak (scheduled to take place in Seoul, South Korea), UFC Vegas 83 has been shifted to the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, for undisclosed reasons.
Song Yadong Wins Dominant Decision, Rountree Scores Another KO: UFC Vegas 83 Review
The UFC Vegas 83 main event features a ranked Bantamweight contest between #7 Song Yadong and #15 Chris Gutierrez. Still only 26, Song is already one of China’s best fighters and looks to be entering the prime of his career. Song surged into the Bantamweight rankings with eight wins from his first ten UFC fights, including victories over Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera and Marlon Moraes.
After suffering a stoppage loss to Cory Sandhagen in 2022 in his first main event, Song returned to the win column earlier this year with a fifth-round stoppage of Ricky Simon. He will hope to continue working towards his first UFC title shot against Gutierrez, who has won eight of his 11 UFC bouts. Gutierrez had his eight-fight undefeated streak snapped by Pedro Munhoz in April but returned to the win column against Alateng Heili in October.

The UFC Vegas 83 co-main event now features a Light Heavyweight matchup between former title challenger Anthony Smith and knockout artist Khalil Rountree Jr. Rountree was scheduled to face Azamat Murzakanov at UFC Austin last week but was rescheduled against Smith due to a Murzakanov injury. Smith enters the contest coming off of a bounce-back win against Ryan Spann, whilst Rountree holds a four-fight win streak.
As expected, due to UFC Vegas 83 originally being planned to take place in China, the event features some of the UFC’s best Asian talent. The likes of Sumudaerji, Jamie Mullarkey, Park Jun-yong, Song Kenan, Kevin Jousset, Shannon Ross, and Tatsuro Taira are in action.
